Shopping For Your Home: Memorial Day Weekend Sales To Take And Avoid

By now you have been blasted with Memorial Day Weekend Sales promotions from big box retailers for things such as patio furniture & grills, mattresses, appliances, and other home goods. It can be difficult to decide what offers are great and which are more talk than an actual deal, but I’m here to help!
I did a bit of research on what Memorial Day Weekend Sales you should jump on and which you should avoid, and here’s what I found (credit goes to FatWallet, a deal-hunting website):

Patio Furniture and Grills – BUY and AVOID

Patio furniture and grills discounts hit their peak during Memorial Day weekend, so you should, for the most part, take the deals if your grill or patio furniture cannot survive the Summer’s grilling and outdoor gatherings. If it can survive the Summer, wait to buy and take advantage of the big Fall deals. (According to FatWallet)

Mattresses – BUY

Absolutely buy. Retailers in this department typically offer their best deals during Memorial Day weekend. During this time you will find the largest selection with the best prices. (According to FatWallet)

Appliances – BUY and AVOID

Much like patio furniture and grills, you can get great deals on these sort of things during other times of the year. Stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Sears may offer up to 50% off on appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, ranges, etc. that rival Black Friday prices. Again, if your appliances are on their last breath, or you are selling your home this Summer and need to upgrade appliances, now is the time to buy. If it can wait, there’s always Black Friday. Lawn & Garden Supplies – BUY

Savings on mulch, soil, plant food, fertilizers, pesticides, and grass seed are also at their peak during this time. The garden has to look good to compliment that new patio furniture and grill you picked up! (According to FatWallet)

Power Tools – AVOID

Avoid buying power tools this Memorial Day weekend. The best deals on power tools and equipment come in June as Father’s Day approaches; the overall selection of savings options compete with Black Friday deals.(According to FatWallet)
